Shawn Smith, a 34-year-old Police Officer who served the Highland Police Department in northwest Indiana for more than 12 years died Monday.

Officer Shawn Smith joined the Highland Police Department 12 years ago when he was just 22, an important part of a family legacy that includes his father, who is a retired Police Officer and his brother, who continues to serve.


“Shawn Smith was a valued member of the Highland Police Department. He was a soft-spoken man, an Officer that inspired calm no matter when the circumstance,” Chief Pete Hojnicki said.

Donations will go to Officer Shawn Smith's wife and two young children or as designated through the Highland, IN Police Department.
