Our mother, Edna Jean Caddess, passed away quietly on May 26th after losing her battle with aggressive late-stage cancer.

She was a military wife that made a home for her husband, me and my sister.  While we were stationed around the world for most of our lives, she still was a true "small town girl" from Kenly, NC that included her parents, a brother, three sisters and a daughter that she loved fiercely but with society being as it was in the 50s and 60s, was being raised by her parents as another sister.

Mom didn't work outside the home but she was involved in our schools, was a Girl Scout leader and also enjoyed bowling, crafts and cake decorating.  When she got older and her health kept her from doing things she loved, she was still involved in her community by serving on the board for her Women of VFW chapter.  No matter how busy she kept herself, she still missed her family back home.  When my dad was TDY in Thailand, we lived in Kenly for that year (1974-1975).  After my dad's orders to Nellis AFB, she only got back to NC twice.  There are many grand children, great grand children and her first great-great grandchild which was born just after Mother's Day this year.  Sadly, she never got to meet most of them in person.

While she is going to be laid to rest in Boulder City, NV with our dad later this fall, we really want to take her home in the next couple of months for a proper southern-style family service.

Our family has always had the utmost respect for our first responders and instilled those values in us.  My sister, my daughter and I all work for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in Las Vegas, NV.  While none of us are commissioned officers, we are proud to be part of the civilian support staff behind the scenes.  Any extra funds from this campaign will be donated back to Officer Down (OfficerDown.US)
