COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Officer Cem Duzel continues to improve after being shot, the police department said Thursday afternoon.

The Colorado Springs Police Department said Duzel “is taking some breaths on his own” as he continues to improve. He is still in critical condition but is stable after undergoing some procedures Wednesday, the department said.

“Cem’s family is humbled and appreciative for all of the kind messages of encouragement and support from our department and the community,” police said in a Facebook post.

Again, we're so happy to report that Cem continues to move forward. Yesterday was a momentous day, as Cem was released from Intensive Care. He continues to be treated by Memorial Central staff.

Visitation continues to be restricted by doctors and family. Please respect this request. For the time being, all visitation is by invitation only.

The support and love this department and community has shown to Cem and his family is nothing short of incredible! His family is overwhelmed by the hundreds of cards and beautiful gifts Cem has received.
