The Shell Lake Police Foundation was created in 2017. The goal of the Shell Lake Police Foundation is multifaceted, but serves two main functions: to generate money that is specifically dedicated to the Shell Lake Police Department and to promote the Shell Lake Police Department by way of events and activities for the Department to be more involved with the community.
To achieve the first goal, people or organizations can now donate to the Foundation and money will actually go to the police department. Whereas before, the money would go to the City of Shell Lake because the police department is not allowed to take donations of any kind. Most times, the money donated with the intent to go to the police department, would never make it to them.
The second goal, to promote the Shell Lake Police Department by way of events and activities for the department to be more involved with the community, is exactly what they are doing by hosting the inaugural Back the Blue 5K. The community is encouraged to participate in several ways such as registering for the event to run/walk, becoming a sponsor by donating items needed for the race or by being a cash sponsor, volunteering at the race or by donating.
The final goal of the Foundation is to put names and faces to those wearing the badge of the Shell Lake Police Department. We encourage you to come to the race and get to know the people who protect you every day. If you can't make it, please donate to help get much needed equipment for the Shell Lake Police Department.
